NOTE: Juteks will not pay labour charges on claims filed for materials installed with obvious visible defects.

Subfloor

Even the best vinyl sheet floorings cannot look good or serve its purpose, if the subfloor is not correctly prepared.

It is very important that the surface, on which flooring is to be installed, is clean and permanently dry as well solid, level and smooth.

NOTE: Juteks cannot be responsible:

  • for joint or texture show-through, ridging over subfloor joint, any raised areas due to uneven surface (from fasteners such as nails …) of subfloor …
  • for discoloration from wet subfloor
Any particles that could compromise the quality of bonding with the adhesive must be removed. The humidity of the subfloor must meet the standards valid in the country where the flooring is to be installed.

If using any fasteners (such as nails, staples …) for subfloor, use only nonstaining galvanized fasteners. If not, discoloration of the resilient floor covering, showing up as yellow or brown spots under the wear layer, can occur.

Solvent-based products, petroleum, pigmented materials on or in the subfloor can permanently stain vinyl floor covering, that’s why subfloor must be free from paint, varnish, oils, solvents, wax, hardening compounds in mastic, asphalt and other similar materials.

NOTE: Juteks cannot be responsible for discoloration from stain sources on/in subfloor mentioned above.

After subfloor preparation has been completed, carefully remove all dirt and debris from the subfloor with a vacuum cleaner, a broom, or a brush with fine bristles.

CAUTION: To ensure to have rolls from one batch, please carefully follow instructions Roll labelling

Adhesive must be spread on 100% of the exposed subfloor, leaving no gaps, voids, puddles, or thin spots. It is desirable to allow open-time for adhesive (follow the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions), to develop tack and body. When adhesive start to tack up, gently position flooring into the adhesive and rolling it forward (to eliminate trapped air). Immediately after that, flooring should be passed over with a roller (45 kg) in order to press backing of flooring into the adhesive and eliminate air bubbles. Start rolling in the center of the sheet and roll flooring in both directions. Repeat rolling again, when fit of flooring in to the room is finished.

Should any construction work be underway in the room, where the vinyl sheet flooring has been installed, the flooring has to be covered or protected. Avoid subjecting the vinyl flooring to a high wheel, castor or foot traffic immediately after installation, as in this initial phase the adhesive on the interface between the vinyl flooring and the subfloor could fail. It takes about 48 hours for the adhesive to dry.

To prevent abrasion and scratching or possible discoloration of the vinyl sheet flooring, sharp furniture legs should be covered with special protective caps made of plastic. The use of protective caps made of rubber is not recommended, as these can leave traces (for example yellow spots).

NOTE:

  • Juteks cannot be responsible for any discoloration or indentations, because using wrong adhesive, wrong mixture of hardeners …
  • Thermal resistance of Juteks flooring varies from 0,01 m² K/W and up to 0,04 m² K/W.
  •  The seam cut and surrounding area must be clean, dry, and free of adhesive.
ROLL LABELING INFORMATION

If more then one roll of same colour in one area is installed, it is important to use all rolls from the same production series (same batch number).

From this it is clear that batch number is critical for installing material on larger surfaces. In such cases carefully check labels on rolls, to suit Juteks instructions.

MAINTENANCE

After installation (for all Juteks floors)

After the vinyl flooring has been installed, protect and do not disturb the sealed seams for at least 16 hours after seam sealer application to ensure a proper seam bond. Keep traffic to minimum during the first 48 hours, to allow the adhesive to harden. Furniture should not be placed on the floor until the adhesive has adequate time to dry (at least 24 hour). Always move heavy furniture and appliances with care to avoid gouging or tearing the floor. First, lay strips of plywood or hardboard panels on the floor. Then roll, "walk" or slide these items on the strips. Make sure furniture legs have large surface, nonstaining floor protectors. Replace small, narrow metal or dome-shaped glides with smooth, flat glides that are in flat contact with the floor. Glides should be equipped with self-adhesive felt pads to avoid scratching the surface of the floor. The pads should be checked periodically for grit and wear and replaced when necessary. Always place mats at outside entrances to prevent dirt, grit and soil from being tracked onto your floor.

NOTE:

  • do not use rubber-backed mats or other rubber objects on surface because they may permanently stain your floor,

  • heat-producing appliances (refrigerators, hot air emitting devices...) or cigarettes and matches can scorch, burn or discolour your floor,

  • do not use spiked heels on floor coverings, they can leave permanent damage on surface,

  • vinyl flooring when overexposed to the sun may discolour or fade, so draw drapes and blinds during peaks periods of strong sunlight,

  • in case of stubborn stains, carefully read section Maintenance in case of stubborn stains.

Initial and regular care (except Safety floor)

The necessary maintenance works include regular sweeping, vacuuming and wiping with a damp cloth, which has a grater effect than occasional scrubbing.

Wipe vinyl flooring with a cloth dampened with a mixture of water and mild detergent. Let it dry. When water is spilt on the surface of vinyl sheet flooring it should be wiped off immediately, as it can damage the adhesive between the vinyl flooring and the subfloor in non-welded vinyl flooring.

When cleaning, do not use soap as it leaves a film on the surface of the vinyl flooring causing it to lose its original lustre.

There is a range of cleaning and maintenance products available that contain high-quality wax; they are especially recommended for vinyl flooring without the EXTRA PU GUARD protective coat. Such products provide additional surface protection and enhance the lustre and smoothness of vinyl flooring. Juteks recommends a consistent use of cleaning products from one manufacturer.

Initial care

Remove all debris, dirt, dust of the floor (sweeping or vacuuming). Depending on the degree of soiling wet cleaning is recommended (neutral detergent or alkaline detergent must be diluted to the manufacturer’s instructions).

For mechanical treatment use a single disc machine with an added soft scrubbing brush. Appropriate detergents are applied diluted with water and after application left for few minutes to take effect. Released PVC dirt is then pulled up with used water suction attachment. Afterwards the whole surface of the floor covering must be rinsed with clean water and dried completely. Do not use stiff-bristled, highly abrasive brushes. They may damage the floor.

Do not use floor polish to increase the gloss of this floor. Applying polish will adversely affect its slip-retardant characteristics.

Regular maintenance

Sweep or vacuum surface dust and grit frequently. Use damp mop with neutral detergent solution (or alkaline detergent upon the level of soiling) and diluted to the manufacturer’s instructions. Dry up as much of the dirty water as possible.

Periodic maintenance

When necessary use scrubs with an automatic floor machine and appropriate scrubbing brush. Appropriate detergents are applied diluted with water and after application left for few minutes to take effect. Released PVC dirt is then pulled up with used water suction attachment. Afterwards the whole surface of the floor covering must be rinsed with clean water and dried completely.

NOTE: Frequency of maintenance will vary according to the location and usage of the area

Regular cleaning is more efficient and cost less than occasional heavy cleaning.
